Carolina Matovac, the fiancée of Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin, made her first appearance of the season during the team's home game against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. Fans cheered loudly as she was shown on the jumbotron waving to the crowd, with Dahlin visible alongside her smiling at the reaction.

The arena public address announcer introduced her, stating: "Welcome home to Carolina Matovac, the fiancée of our captain Rasmus Dahlin. She is back with us, attending her first game of the season. The Sabrehood loves you, Carolina."

Matovac's appearance came months after she suffered major heart failure while on vacation in France over the summer. Dahlin detailed the incident in an open letter to fans published by the Sabres in September 2024, noting she had felt ill for several days before the episode.[1][2]

Dahlin wrote that Matovac received CPR on multiple occasions, including sessions lasting up to two hours, which kept her alive until she spent weeks on life support and underwent a heart transplant in France.[1][2]

Rasmus Dahlin, a 24-year-old Swedish defenceman selected first overall by Buffalo in the 2018 NHL Draft, took time during her recovery in Sweden before returning to play. The Sabres have not reached the playoffs since the 2010-11 season, the longest current drought in the NHL.[3]

KeyBank Center, the Sabres' home arena since 1996, has a seating capacity of 19,070.[4]
